1 gallon Reefbowl I, half gallon completely sealed SPS pico reef tank
Uploaded from Youtube: each environment holds one gallon or less total saltwater volume, uses no water pumps or filters and houses delicate coral ecosystems replete with starfish, hard and soft
corals, sandbeds with many fauna and years-long lifespan depending on hardware consistency. The square sealed environment on the left is my own personal invention and biodesign, but the aquarium comes
from a petshop--it was meant to be a betta tank I just retrofitted it to work with saltwater. I paid a glass company to fabricate a custom sealed lid, totally my design idea- the first truly sealed
reef aquarium that does not evaporate whatsoever. An internal subdivision behind the coral wall makes the oxygen...Never before this design has topoff been eliminated from the hobby (and the resulting
SG shifts) much less at .75 total gallons.
Here's the link for the square micro tank:

1 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium and Globe Ecosystems
Uploaded from YouTube - brandon429 - 1 Gallon Pico Reef, 1/2 gallon sealed SPS reef tank, 19 gallon bog terrarium globe, 75 gallon planted tank with Co2 injection. Keeping ecosystems in odd
containers changes the chemistry and dynamics interestingly and has a direct correlation to evaporation rates, nitrate binding or export, and temperature stabilization to name a few.
I will be glad to discuss the biology associated with any micro reef tank care so just post in the comments section and feel free to link your own micro reefs if you keep them.
certain shapes for the captive reef help the tricky balances to self-stabilize in time, and that is why you see the amount of life you do along with the video proof that this is not a plumbed or
cheated system in anyway, it's simply a fishbowl or vase reef. These were the first sub-gallon pico reefs invented that you will find on the internet, none are older and as long-lived with web
documentation. if you'd like to research pico reef history start at Reefs.Org and reefcentral around 2002 and nano-reef.com
These forums paved the way for the explosion in popularity you see now with micro aquaria and document the progress of this layman's science
I thought it would be interesting for all of us to share pico reef design concepts on this video so post anything you know about them.
nice to meet you all and thank you for watching!
I stay active enough on this forum and in the marine and fish forums it won't be too hard to find me so we can chat about marine biology and aquatic sciences. I will also help you build and
stabilize these so hit me up in the comments if you start one.

1200 gallon reef at 9000 feet
Visit http://coralidea.com for a free downloadable guide to corals and fish.
This is a video of Stephen Hurlock's 1200 gallon reef aquarium about 2 months after setup. The new tank is 10' long by 5' wide by 3' tall. This is an upgrade of the previous 600
gallon reef which was in it's place. Much of the livestock is from that previous tank as well as harvested from the local Denver CO reef aquarium community. The water is circulated within the
aquarium exclusively with 8 Vortech pumps, with only four on at one time working to spin the entire water mass in a gyre-like motion. The vortechs are placed inside a custom designed dry cavity next
to the overflow box. There is over 5000 watts of lights, mostly halides with a few VHO actinics.

130g Rimless Cube Saltwater Reef Aquarium
This is my brand new reef tank. Almost everything you see in the tank just came from www.tampabaysaltwater.com. The tank itself is 1/2" Starphire glass all around with a 3/4" regular glass
bottom. The tank is a full walk-around tank, with a corner overflow. The corner overflow was custom built and houses two Vortech MP40w powerheads, as well as a drypipe to feed the wiring for the
vortechs and lighting down into the stand. Lighting is a 24" Aqua Photon Plus 250w HQI + four 24w T5 bulbs. The HQI is an XM 10,000k DE and the T5 bulbs are two ATI Blue Plus and two UVL Super
Actinic. Below the tank in the stand is a custom sump from Sapphire Aquatics which holds an i-Tech 200 protein skimmer, a BRS Dual Reactor running HC GFO and Rox Carbon, and a Turbo Twist UV light.
The main guts of the system is controlled by a Reef Keeper Lite. No fish yet. Enjoy this quick little tour of the tank. I will post more vids of the tank as it progresses, including some shots of the
equipment.
Recorded on January 26, 2010 using a Flip Video camcorder.
